What sets our business apart from the rest? This business is based around four key elements: affordability, customer service, a passion for plants, and intelligent use of hard landscaping.
Affordability By keeping all our services in house we dramatically reduce costs, making ourselves more affordable, helping to make your money go further and most importantly making it easier for your to achieve a truly stunning garden.
Customer service By working with you throughout the entire project, it enables you to effectively communicate exactly what you want, allowing small changes to be made along the way, ensuring you are satisfied with the end result.
Passion about planting To us, planting is not just something to fill up space, we us planting schemes as the centrepiece of the picture. A huge working knowledge of plants, knowing where they grow in their natural habitat, and how to combine plants that work well both in terms of aesthetics but also in practicality. Ensuring the garden not only looks great when it is first built but throughout the seasons and also in five years time one plant hasn't taken over.
We don't look at a border as a collection of individual plants, but as a whole. Each plant is a colour and a shape, and by itself no matter how wonderful the colour and shape an individual plant has by itself it is not enough to create a beautiful holistic picture. Even a collection of beautiful plants does not necessarily create a beautiful garden, and often plants that are individually quite ordinary when combined with an artistic eye can create stunning images. For example a plant like verbena, by itself is leggy, bare and unimpressive, but combined with a plant like stipa gigantica gives a hot, dry, airy and creates sound and movement in the garden. This is the skill of artistic garden design.
Intelligent use of hard landscaping Hard landscaping, such as patios, paths, pergolas, and steps, really eat into the budget, people who specialise solely in hard landscaping want as much of this as possible as for them, as hard surfaces are the core of their business, often the planting is an afterthought and a quick run to the garden centre to fill the standard 12" strip around the lawn with plants on special offer is all the effort that is taken. Hard landscaping without planting is cold, bare, and uninviting while planting without hard landscaping is unliveable. Hard surfaces are needed to sit, walk and to transition between heights, however a stone arch can frame a garden, can create focus and can conceal then as you walk through a picture can slowly reveal itself.
With thoughtful design, when these elements combine, not only can we walk around and live in our garden with the use of hard surfaces but the hard surfaces in themselves reflect the colours and textures of the planting helping to create a seamless artistic division between for and function making a garden much more than the sum of it's parts.
